Osho on Vested Interests

"I am a little bit crazy because I am speaking against my own profession, but I can't help it.  I could have been a world teacher with millions of followers if I had not been crazy enough to start telling you the truth.  The truth is, all the vested interests are against you: your individuality, your nature, your potentiality." - Osho

When I read this quote, I think about how difficult it is to teach the Martial Arts in a commercialized society.  When you teach your own children Martial Arts, there is no problem, there is no money involved or exchanged.  If they want to learn, they learn, if they don't, they don't.

A Martial Arts teacher should never be a beggar for students, if he is a beggar for students, it is impossible for him to teach the Martial Arts the way it really should be taught.  Essentially the students should be begging the Martial Art teacher to teach them.  The teacher should be given the ability to choose one in one thousand to be ready for the Martial Arts.  The Martial Arts teacher should not be begging to have 1000 students.  It is all wrong.  Out of 1000 people, one might be ready, 999 are not.

Profit does not belong in the Martial Arts.  It can belong within the Fitness, Self-Defense, and Combat Sport industry.  But it does not belong in the Martial Arts.  You will be lucky to find another Bruce Lee within 100 years time.  A Bruce Lee does not come by often.  Real Martial Artists are not built in factories like a motor vehicle in an assembly line.  A Martial Artist is a unique individual that does not come by very often.  Like a Socrates, Lao tzu, Buddha, Bruce Lee, Osho, 2pac, Martin Luther King Jr., etc.
